Welcome
to what promises to be a snowy, cold winter. I hope you all had a
good holiday.
Our
winter concert will be held on Friday January 30, 2009 at Queen Street
East Presbyterian Church at Queen and Carlaw . We will begin at
7:00....As usual, don't forget to bring something for our reception in
the Banquet Hall afterwards. For the concert, please just use the
Queen Street (side) entrance.
It is
easy to become unmotivated at this time of the year...Here are some tips
for keeping yourself inspired while you learn to play the piano:
Please
plan to attend group classes. They accomplish the following:
-
Performing for each other
-
Learning some theory and applying it.
-
Getting to know other budding musicians
-
Having some fun…playing some games
Everyone should be prepared to play something during group classes.
Please check out www.youtube.com for musical inspiration...I had a
student recently suggest that piano music was just for girls...check out
these names...Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Oscar Peterson, Leon
Fleischer, Lang Lang, Christopher Norton...just to mention a few..
For
violin...Joshua Bell and cello...Yo Yo Ma...all on youtube...
Play
some music that you have heard, just using your ear and improvise with
the left hand...I can help with this..
Keep
practicing. Go to a music store and look at all of the music. It is
inspiring. If you choose something to play, I will help you with it.
Sing...and listen to lots of music...
Musically Yours,
Louise
