We are getting close to the end of the Fall Term. Winter Term will begin on Monday January 8 and end on Sunday March 11. I will be taking a week off some time during the Winter Term. I have not decided which week yet, but I will let you know in plenty of time. Therefore I will invoice everyone for one less week during the Winter Term.
Student Goal Sheets will be updated and edited to reflect new goals for the Winter Term. I will send them off to you with your invoices.
This term I would like to have two Piano Performance classes. One for the older students on a Tuesday evening and One for the younger Students on a Sunday afternoon. Dates. T.B.A.
Congratulations to Olivia who placed highly enough in the Contemporary Showcase to be invited to play in a concert at the Royal Conservatory of Music on Sunday December 3.
We had a lovely “Gingerbread Xmas Party” Performance Class on Sunday December 3. Thanks to all who attended and to everyone who contributed to the food table.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I have been busy preparing students for this term, the year, and several upcoming piano performance events.
1. Goal sheets should be read, signed and returned. Hopefully this will keep us on track. There is a difference between practicing and playing. Areas encompassed by stars in the music means that is where practicing should begin..the trouble spots. Playing the song from beginning to end and ignoring the trouble spots is not practicing.
2. Our piano performance class will be held on Friday October 27 from 6:00-7:30 at my home. No costumes but we will play some Hallowe’en music and bring treats if you like.
3. The Ontario Registered Music teachers’ Association annual Halloween party is to be held on Sunday October 29 from 3-4. Please wear a costume!! Some students have registered for this. They know who they are. if you would like to take part please let me know.
We will have a “Howling Halloween” time at both events!!!
My hope is that everyone had a wonderful relaxing summer. It was busy around here..never a dull moment.
I will be having each student fill out a goal sheet at his/her first lesson. I would like it taken home for parents to review and sign. I want to keep parents well informed.
At the end of the term, I will send home a little assessment comparing goals to what was actually achieved…just to keep everyone on track.
You will receive a reminder and an invoice a few days before your first lesson but please check the schedule for your time slot.
This term I ham hostessing two piano performance classes..one for Hallowe’en on October 27 and one for Christmas/Holiday music on Friday December 1. This gives students a chance to perform for each other which is very helpful when you are developing your musicianship. Parents can attend as well if they choose. If I have a lot of people attending, I may host these at the church at Queen and Carlaw. That can be decided later.
Welcome back. I am looking forward to a great piano year!!
Hello to my wonderful students and their families:
I am available for summer lessons on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays except for July 17-21. I always suggest at least two lessons during the summer months. We all need a break but do not want to totally give up playing and particularly sight-reading during the summer months.
Other than that Happy Canada Day and have a wonderful summer season. See you in September!!
Students are preparing for the Piano Performance class to take place on Sunday April 29 at 1:30 until 3:00 at 51 Ted Reeve dRive. Many students will use this to rehearse their repertoire for the Annual Spring Concert.
Rehearsal for our Annual Spring Concert takes place on Thursday May 11 at 7:30 at the Queen Street East Presbyterian Church located at Queen and Carlaw.
The Spring Concert takes place on Saturday May 13 at the Queen Street East Presbyterian Church located at Queen and Carlaw. The concert begins at 7:00. Please bring a treat for the reception afterwards.
Come and share the music with us!!
Please note that the last week for piano lessons this term is the week of December 12th to the 16th.
It is very important that students listen to music. Go to concerts, listen to the radio, recordings and especially listen to the music they are playing. It makes playing and interpreting the music so much easier. You tube has everything they need for this purpose
Students who have an account with the Royal Conservatory of Music can access music online at www.rcmexaminations.org. This site also has great ear training games. Lots of fun.
If you have not already, please let me know if you re attending classes the first week of January.
Piano Performance class will take place on Sunday from 1:30 until 3:00.
Presenting yourself for Performance
A short discussion of Baroque music and Romantic music. When Louise plays can you tell the difference?
What is Louise doing wrong? A demonstration and guessing game using three pieces of music.
Theory games in teams..rhythm, intervals and note reading depending on student level.
Gingerbread cookies and apple juice/or apple cider.
It is always exciting to begin a new music term…especially in the Fall. Welcome back.
This says it all for me:) I hope you feel inspired to learn!!!
